Power Up Your Program with New STEM Learning Opportunities

Looking for fresh, high-quality STEM activities to finish the summer strong? Youth Engineering Solutions offers flexible, hands-on engineering activities for youth in PreK–8 that are designed specifically for informal learning environments. These activities are a great fit for summer programs, afterschool, libraries, makerspaces, STEM camps, and other enrichment settings.

Programs can explore ready-to-use activity bundles organized by age group:

PreK–Kindergarten

  • Wee Engineer – Four design challenges that build young learners’ confidence and introduce the engineering design process.

  • Engineering Sun Hats – Youth investigate how shade provides cooling and design sun hats that block sunlight while meeting users’ needs.

  • Engineering Trash Collectors – Youth explore how materials behave in water as they design a device to remove trash from a model pond.

Lower Elementary

  • Engineering Bandages – Youth design bandages that cover and protect a model cut.

  • Engineering Bubble Wands – Youth create bubble wands designed to produce bubbles in different shapes and sizes.

  • Engineering Sails – Youth design sails that capture wind energy to move a vehicle across a set distance.

Upper Elementary

  • Engineering an Avalanche Protection System – Youth design systems that hold back or redirect large amounts of snow to protect a town.

  • Engineering Earthquake-Resistant Buildings – Youth construct model buildings that can better withstand the forces of an earthquake.

  • Engineering Upcycled Toy Vehicles – Youth transform reusable materials into working toy vehicles.

Middle School

  • Engineering Antivirals – Youth develop models showing how antivirals can prevent a virus from attaching to a cell.

  • Engineering Prosthetic Tails – Youth design prosthetic devices for animals that have lost a body part.

  • Engineering Vertical Farms – Youth create vertical farming systems that maximize food production in limited spaces.

Explore the activity bundles and find the right fit for your program.
