Kentucky, Let’s Shine Bright for Lights On Afterschool - Register Your Event Today!
It may still be summer, but the school year will be here before we know it—and so will one of the biggest moments of the year for the out-of-school time field.
Lights On Afterschool, the nation’s only nationwide celebration dedicated to afterschool programs, takes place each October and gives programs across the country an opportunity to open their doors, showcase their impact, and remind communities why afterschool matters.
More than a celebration, Lights On Afterschool is an important advocacy moment. When programs across Kentucky turn on their lights, we send a powerful message to families, policymakers, and funders: afterschool programs are here, they are working, and they deserve continued support.
Now is the perfect time to start thinking about how your program will participate. The first step is simple: register your program at afterschoolalliance.org/loa.cfm. You do not need to have every detail finalized before registering. The website offers helpful ideas and resources to support events of all sizes, from open houses and family nights to community walks, student showcases, and social media campaigns.
Kentucky is already showing up strong, with more than 50 sites registered and counting! But we want every program in the Commonwealth represented. Whether you serve students in a small rural community, a large urban center, or anywhere in between, your program’s story matters—and your community deserves to see it celebrated.
KYOSA will share more in the coming months about how we will mark the occasion in October, including opportunities to lift up the incredible programs and providers making a difference every day across Kentucky.
Don’t wait for every detail to fall into place. Register today, plan later, and get ready to celebrate alongside the full KYOSA network this fall. Together, we can make sure Kentucky’s lights shine bright for afterschool.
