Kentucky Ambassador Program
The Kentucky Afterschool Ambassador Program has stood as one of KYOSA's most impactful initiatives from 2022-2025, empowering program leaders and advocates from across the Commonwealth to raise their voices in support of afterschool programs and the policies that make them possible. Selected annually from some of Kentucky's most effective afterschool programs and advocacy organizations, Ambassadors have represented all six U.S. Congressional districts, ensuring that the full breadth of Kentucky's communities have a seat at the table. Each cohort of up to 12 individuals has brought diverse perspectives, from afterschool directors and front-line staff to teachers, administrators, and nonprofit professionals, all united by a shared passion for expanding opportunity for young people.
Throughout the program year, Ambassadors have taken on meaningful and tangible work to advance the afterschool movement. They have built relationships with state and local elected officials through in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, and social media engagement, while also organizing community events to communicate the power and impact of afterschool programs in their regions. From celebrating Lights on Afterschool to meeting with policymakers at the Capitol in Frankfort, Ambassadors have served as credible, passionate voices for the field, backed by monthly leadership training designed to sharpen their communication, public speaking, and advocacy skills.
In recognition of their commitment, Ambassadors have received a $1,000 stipend, along with invaluable opportunities to network with fellow afterschool leaders, build partnerships to sustain program funding, and deepen their understanding of the political process. Each Ambassador has also contributed a written piece, whether an op-ed, press release, or program profile, helping to tell the story of afterschool across Kentucky. The program has not only produced stronger advocates; it has cultivated a generation of leaders who continue to champion afterschool long after their term ends.
KYOSA is planning to launch a new cohort in 2027 to revamp and reimagine the Ambassador Program. If you are interested in serving as a sponsor or financially supporting this endeavor, we encourage you to reach out to us directly, your investment will help shape the next generation of afterschool advocates across Kentucky.
